Every award season has this one young talented newcomer whose name is on everyone’s lips. In the past years, it was usually young actresses who would steal the spotlight. Some names include Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o and, further back in time, Gwyneth Paltrow. Unforgettable appearances, right?
Well, this year’s Hollywood revelation is a he and he is it: what cinema enthusiasts have been longing for a while now. A fresh face, an extremely skilled actor, who brought us the performance of the year in the sublime Call Me By Your Name. His name is Timothée Chalamet and he’s here to steal the hearts of ladies and lads altogether.

And it’s not just the movie world that’s obsessed with and inspired by Timmy Tim (his old high-school rap name). It’s the whole internet too. After all, it’s not every day that a new young Christian Bale comes along to eclipse all other young actors.
Here’s why this award season is really special for Chalamet. First of all, he stars in not one, but two multi-nominated movies. In Lady Bird, directed by Greta Gerwig, he plays Saoirse Ronan’s boyfriend – if only for a brief period. However, his short time on screen is impactful enough to make one realize his magnetic presence.

His other role is the one that put him in the spotlight (hopefully for the long run). In Call Me By Your Name, Chalamet shines together with his co-star and now friend, Armie Hammer. Under the magic direction of Luca Guadagnino, the two play the characters of 17-year old Elio and 24-year old Oliver who share a most thrilling love story.
And the Oscar goes to…
Timothée’s role in the coming-of-age drama brought him every nomination he could dream of, including a Golden Globe and yes, an Oscar one. To put things in perspective over how remarkable his performance is, he is the youngest actor to have won the nomination in almost 80 years. Now that’s an achievement!

Not to mention he also stars in the upcoming Hostiles alongside none other than Christian Bale. And if that’s not enough, his new movie, where he is joined by Selena Gomez, is directed by Woody Allen. Looks like the kid is literally having the time of his life.
His acceptance speeches are becoming more and more eloquent. After all, he has enough practice now with awards like those at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Gotham Independent Film Awards and many others.

According to Greta Gerwig, Chalamet is “a young Christian Bale crossed with a young Daniel Day-Lewis with a sprinkle of young Leonardo DiCaprio, and then raised speaking French in Manhattan and given a Mensa-level IQ and a love of hip-hop.” And we wish him all the best in his bright and brand new career.
