Being an empath is both a blessing and a curse. And that’s because the deep connection they have with the world and with other people can take a serious toll on their mental and physical well-being. But there are ways to practice self-care while still being sensitive to other people needs.
Here are some practical steps you can take if you are an empath and you want to stop absorbing other people’s stress and negative feelings.
1. Give thanks
Expressing gratitude for your gifts and for the people in your life not only has great benefits for your physical and mental well-being, but it also keeps you focused on the present moment.
2. Practice meditation
Meditation is great remedy for managing fear and sensory overload. You will feel stronger, calmer and more in charge of your own life.
3. Breathing exercises
Breathing exercises are great for when you feel overwhelmed by your own emotions or by the emotions that you’ve absorbed from others. They can give you clarity and strength.
4. Trust your intuition
When your gut is telling you that some people are best kept away, trust it! And when you feel that a new person in your life will bring you joy or a new perspective on things, again, trust that feeling!
5. Be kind to yourself
Learn to show yourself the same compassion and care you show your friends and family. Embrace your vulnerabilities and be proud of your strengths!
