Loving Somebody Else Starts With Loving Yourself

The story of every love you’ll ever meet starts and ends with you. But sometimes it’s hard to like or even tolerate ourselves. How can we ask our partner to like and tolerate us? What can we really bring to the table if we are tormented by our own demons? Being at peace with yourself, your past, your mistakes and insecurities, can totally change the way you interact with your partner.

Having a negative relationship with yourself will affect the outcome of a relationship with your partner in drastic ways. If you are frustrated or blame yourself for things, you will bring all those negative feelings into the relationship. You will begin to project and things can only go south from there.

Here are some things everybody should do for themselves:

1. Treat yourself with love, kindness, and care

This is really the best thing you can do for yourself. Understanding who you are at the core of your being will help you bring more awareness into your life. Knowing your most intimate desires and true needs will allow you to chose your partner wisely. And once in a relationship, you can better relate to your partner.

2. Don’t put yourself down

You are your friend, not your enemy. A healthy relationship with oneself is not based on constantly nagging yourself with your flaws and failures. Really, you cannot be as bad as your low self-esteem is trying to convince you. If you don’t respect yourself, your partner will have difficulties as well.

3. Keep the self blame at bay

Whatever mistakes you may have made, they are in the past. And they should stay there. Don’t dwell on them. Moreover, they made you wiser and stronger. And they brought you to this point in your life. So take time to shower yourself with gratitude!

4. Strive every day to be healthier and happier

Taking care of yourself on a daily basis is a really radical choice. But the good news, you only have to make a good choice once. After that, your habit will do the work for you. Keep healthy and strong!

The more you love yourself, the more love you’ll have for somebody else. Please, share this!
