Do you know that moment when you’re feeling strong and courageous and want to make the world a better place? And then somebody comes along mocking you for the idealism and the nativity that such an attitude entails?
Well, the next time this happens, don’t let them rain on your parade. Instead, tell them the following story.
A wise man was walking on the beach and saw somebody moving in a graceful way down the shore. He got closer and noticed a young man picking something with care and throwing it into the ocean. The wise man approached him and asked him what he was doing.
The young man answered that he was throwing starfish back into the ocean so that they wouldn’t die when the sun would be up and the tide out.
The wise man tried to make the young realize that that was useless, that they are too many starfish to save on the beach. He told him his efforts won’t make a difference.
The young man pondered, then picked another starfish, threw it into the ocean and said: “It made a difference for that one.”
