What I Learned From Loving The “Wrong Person”

A few times in our lives, we come across people who will shake us to the core, but teach us vital lessons. At first, we feel drawn to them and we just click. And so it quickly turns into a romance, and it feels like the fairy-tale you’ve always dreamed of.

There is that spark between you that is unparalleled. He is a fountain of joy for you and soon enough you won’t be able to imagine your life without them. And as things get more serious, you’re thinking this is it. This is the person who will become your life partner. But deep down, you don’t feel quite at ease about everything.

You love him and your relationship seems strong because you’re both just as dedicated. But the early stages of love belong to the past now and they made room for insecurities. There are some things about him that upset you and although you realize that no one is perfect, you can’t overlook them. Your gut tells you that something is wrong, but you can’t really tell what it is. The veil of love is much stronger than anything else and you decide to focus on the good side of your relationship.

Once the relationship was over, you realize the veil has been lifted. And you can immediately tell he was definitely the wrong person for you. Your goals were different and he didn’t always respect you. But because we’re all human, we sometimes need love and so we turn a blind eye to the drawbacks. However, there are some things you can learn from a failed relationship:

Giving and receiving love are natural human needs

This means we shouldn’t feel guilty for loving someone, even though we didn’t feel at peace with the relationship. We all need to feel cared for and approved by the other. And no matter how emotionally aware we are, we still cling to a bad relationship. We know we’re with the wrong person, but we have hope.

Sometimes we just have to go through it, even when we think it won’t end well

That’s because everything has a purpose, and that includes each relationship and each person in our lives. Even if things get messy sometimes, that’s where the secret of life lies. It teaches us to weather the storms and there are such valuable lessons we can learn if we let go.
