Do you find yourself fuming with rage about fast-food workers moving too slow or whenever someone cuts you off in traffic, do you have a tantrum when someone tries to skip the queue? Anger is a normal healthy emotion and we are all prone to little episodes of uncontrolled outbursts. Sometimes it can be rather difficult to keep your anger in check, but you’ll have some great feedback if you face it with positivity.
Take a look at some anger management tips, to help tame your temper:
1. Don’t surrender to the little devil inside
When things get toasty, most often than not we say something we later regret. Don’t listen to the angry voice inside your head, you know it wants you to scream and shout. Take some time to think before letting the words fall out. Allow the others as well to collect their thoughts.
2. When you reach a calm state, speak your anger
It’s important to utter your feelings in an assertive and not conflicting way. Speak about your frustrations, needs and worries and what makes you angry, while being sensitive to other people’s emotions.
3. Go for a walk
Go for a walk and take a breath of fresh air. Physical activity helps reduce stress and the mind to chill, so it’s a good idea to take a timeout whenever you get angry and engage in some movement.
4. Laugh it off
Facing the situation with humour is another way to battle anger issues. Laughing releases tension and we happen to burst out in laughter quite often when we realise how insignificant were the reasons we got angry in the first place.
5. Bury the hatchet
Bottling up emotions doesn’t fight the fury. Charging your soul with negativity will eventually make you bitter. So the safest way is to forgive the ones who angered you, hoping you’ll both learn something from the situation.
Don’t let anger control your life! If you have friends who struggle with anger issues, you should share this with them!
