1. Let yourself grieve.

One of the most important steps towards real healing is to let yourself go through the pain. Don’t try to avoid what you’re feeling or repress any sadness or anger you may feel. Make sure you express your emotions in healthy ways – you can have a good cry (or a few), talk to friends, or write in a journal. If you acknowledge your hurt, the healing process has already started.

2. Take care of yourself.

When you’re in pain, you may have the tendency to neglect yourself and your well-being. Taking good care of you during this period is another crucial part of the healing process. Try to sleep when you feel you need rest (too many emotions can be draining) and don’t skip your meals. Healthy habits are a great way to cope with what you’re going through and also a good way to be kind to yourself.

3. Try exercising and meditation.

These two activities will work wonders for your body and mind and will build the path towards a healthier better you. Use meditation to help you look deep within and find yourself again. This exercise for your brain will improve your relationship with yourself and the world and will help you make peace with what happened. It will also make you pay attention to your thoughts and emotions more.

4. Engage in meaningful work and fun activities.

Having something to keep your mind off of memories of your ex is another key element in this process. But try not to use activities to distract you from what you’re feeling. The pain will eventually return if you don’t deal with it as it happens.

The healing process can be long and complex but if you implement these steps in your life, you will be able to accept what happened and leave it in the past. And once you come to terms with it and find yourself, you will find love again.
