4. To hold others to impossible standards.

If you happen to be disappointed by people around you a lot, there is a big chance that you have very strict standards or you see in them things that you don’t like about yourself. The hostility towards others is often unconscious hostility towards ourselves.

Examine your own feelings when others disappoint you. Try to replace anger with empathy, as you wish them to do when they discover your limits.

5. To believe that nothing will change for the better.

We know that life has ups and downs, but when we are down we believe, feel and act as if tomorrow is going to be a worst version of today. We believe that there is no hope and that the dark times are here forever. Peace comes from believing that there are still things to enjoy, appreciate and believe in the world that just didn’t find their way to you yet.

6. To believe that you are powerless.

There were times in our lives, especially during childhood, when we were helpless, when things went terribly wrong without our participation. And many people have learned to feel like this no matter the situation and to view their lives as passive bystanders.

Having been robed of choice once or several times does not mean that power is being taken away from us forever. It does not mean that we can not make a difference now, that you can not be the captain of your own ship.
