If you’re in a relationship and your partner says they need space you might panic and that’s understandable. But there are others things you can do that are more useful.

1. Find out what it means

Needing space is such a generic expression that it may be confusing. Ask your partner what exactly it involves.  Is it texting less? Is it spending more nights apart? Is it a breakup? Learning what they mean can help you plan your future accordingly.

2. Express your gratitude for their honesty

It may be difficult to admit, but if your partner says that they need space, it actually can be a good thing. Or at least better than just disappearing without any explanation whatsoever. So maybe it’s not a bad idea to thank them for their honesty.
