Sometimes, we fail to show our bodies a bit of love and respect. We give in and compare ourselves to better, fitter, more slender bodies. Or we put it through unnecessary stress: awful diets, not enough sleep or too much alcohol.
Here are some things you can do to have a better relationship with your body. It’s the only one you’ve got, after all.
1. Show your body some kindness
When you discover a physical flaw, you might be tempted to feel that your body has betrayed you. As if your body’s mission should be to always be perfect. When this happens, try to counter the negative thoughts by making a list of all the things that you like about your body.
2. Be grateful for all the things your body does
Remember that your body is there for you every single second of your life. It creates energy in the tiny space of the cells, your heart beats more than 100000 a day and there are as many neurons in your brain as stars in our galaxy. And these are just some of the amazing things your body does. So take a minute to say thanks to your body.
3. Pamper your body from time to time
Express your gratitude not only with words, but also with actions. Treat your body with a long bath, a relaxing message or a yoga session. These little thing will not only make you feel better in the moment, but in time they will change your attitude towards your body.
4. Believe the compliments you get
We tend to hush away the compliments we receive because we don’t believe we deserve them. But what if you would really take them to the heart? Why wouldn’t you allow yourself to wallow in the glory of a compliment?
5. Dance the night away
You don’t have to go out every night to enjoy yourself. The one things that you can do and that will make you feel better is dancing. You can do it alone in front of the mirror or with a close friend. Dancing releases endorphins, which are feel-good hormones, and ameliorates the symptoms of depression. It’s also good for your confidence and self-esteem.
