The story revolves around Charles Manson, but none of the actors will be playing the most famous criminal and cult leader in America. They will play a duo of struggling actors, DiCaprio being a former Western TV series star and Pitt his stunt double. They live next door to Sharon Tate, the actress who was murdered by Manson’s followers. Tarantino has called the movie “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood.”

Fascination with tragedy is human nature and the Manson murders give people plenty of that. The tragedy took place in 1969 when the Manson Family (Charles and his followers) killed seven people in Los Angeles, including a pregnant Sharon Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski.

This will be Tarantino’s 9th movie and he intends to stop at number 10, as he stated a few years back. “I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old. I’m very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that [doesn’t] exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff,” Tarantino said in Sony’s release.
Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio both worked with Tarantino before. Pitt starred in Inglorious Basterds (2009) and DiCaprio in Django Unchained (2012).
